Pooling
resources – models and data

Motivation
The storing of available project information is
necessary to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the project’s research
activities. The Data Managements System (DMS) will enable comparing data across
different sources and exchanging information between the different research partners
in the FOODSECURE project.
Research
set-up and objectives
The focus is on storing information and making results
comparable and available in a user-friendly way.
Research
approach
Since resources do not allow developing a completely
new Data Management System in this project, existing tools will be adapted. The first tool that will be used is the DataM
tool of JRC/IPTS. This tool will focus on analyzing and visualizing data from a
variety of different datasets. The main strength of DataM is its ability to
link these different datasets by their nomenclatures. DataM will be used as the
data dissemination tool. The second tool is the MetaBase system of WUR-LEI.
MetaBase will become the central point of the DMS and will be used for the
internal data management by storing all available information made available by
the other workpackages of the FoodSecure project. Communication between
MetaBase and DataM will be done through web-services which will be specifically
developed for this project.
Outcome
A Data Management System for storing, harmonizing and
exchanging primary and secondary data and model results between project
research partners. Partners in the FoodSecure project have direct access to all
data stored through the FoodSecure website. The data will be made available to
the research community and the public via the visualization tool DataM and
accessible through the Web and to the general public via a user-friendly
interface.
